Landscape Design

Janine’s love of Horticulture stems from a long history of family members in the industry. Starting with her great-grandfather in the 1900’s, the family started  plant nurseries, retail garden centers and also farming and dairy businesses.  Her grandfather, J.H. Burton worked in his father’s nursery business in Cottage City, MD. before establishing his own nursery and garden center in 1929, as the founder and president of the J. H. Burton and Sons Nursery and Garden Center. Additionally, he was a past president of the Maryland Nurserymen’s Association and was named Nurseryman of the Year in 1958. Some noted accomplishments of theirs’ include working on the White House Rose Garden and joining the Lady Bird Johnson Beautification Committee as part of the 3,800 Japanese cherry blossom, or Yashino tree installation. She first was exposed to the family business as a

child when her family moved to Homestead to start Busy B’s Nursery, Inc. focusing on ground cover and landscape design.  In the 80’s, when the Company was a recipient of the F.N.G.A. (now F.N.G.L.A.) Landscape of the Year Award for the landscape installation at Belle Plaza Condominium in Miami Beach, designed by Architect Ted Baker.

Starting at the young age of nine, the family business instilled a work ethic that led Janine to work in plant maintenance in N.Y.C. and later on to purchase an interior plant maintenance company which now includes landscape design and maintenance, Interior Plant Leasing, Residential Landscape Design, Installation and Maintenance, Educational Programming and Environmental Solutions.
